Chuck Harman
Director of External Relations
External Relations for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
Chuck Harman has served as Director, External Relations for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) since 1998. Mr. Harman previously served as Director of Communications for NAMI. As a Regional Manager for Ramsay Healthcare, Inc., he oversaw the administrative, clinical and financial operations of the contract management division of a national behavioral healthcare company.

Mr. Harman is also an adjunct faculty member at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University where he teaches graduate courses in health care public relations. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from WVU. Mr. Harman was awarded NAMI’s 1st Annual Executive Director’s Award for Excellence in 2003 and was named the 2005 Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year, 2005 from the P.I. Reed School of Journalism.

In addition to serving as Managing Editor of Innovations and Research, an international journal focused on psychiatric rehabilitation published by Boston University and NAMI from 1991 to1995, Mr. Harman has published several articles and has conducted numerous industry and health care related workshops throughout the United States and abroad. He has contributed to the Journal of Nonprofit and Public Sector Marketing and the Schizophrenia Bulletin, and was a speaker at the World Public Relations Festival in Trieste, Italy in 2005.
