Vice President, Advocacy And Public Policy
American Cancer Society
Paul Hull, who is responsible for leading the Florida Division’s advocacy team in the advancement of cancer-related public policy, joined the American Cancer Society in 2002. Prior to initiating a lobbying career, Hull worked for 15 years in the Florida Legislature, first as a committee analyst and then as an aide to two prominent members of the Florida Senate, building an extensive background in policy research and development. He served as a policy aide to Senator Bill Bankhead (R-Ponte Vedra Beach) during Bankhead’s stint as Chairman of the powerful Senate Rules Committee, and Senator Jim King (R-Jacksonville) during King’s tenure as Senate Majority Leader.

During Hull’s tenure with Senator King, he had role in crafting the ultimate legislative package that created what is now known as the James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program, a state-funded peer-reviewed and competitive biomedical research program that provides grants for the study of tobacco-related illnesses. Using the King model, Hull was the original author of the legislation proffered by the American Cancer Society to create what is now the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program.

Hull is a graduate of the University of Florida (B.A., Political Science, 1987) and Florida State University (Master of Public Administration, 1992), and has served extensively on local and state boards of various organizations, such as the Jaycees, Children’s Home Society, and Community Rehabilitation Center. He resides in Tampa, Florida.
